What is XRP (XRP)?
XRP is a cryptocurrency created by Ripple, designed for fast and cheap cross-border payments. XRP transactions confirm in 3–5 seconds and cost a fraction of a cent. Unlike Bitcoin, XRP does not use mining — all 100 billion coins were created at the start.
XRP is used by banks and payment providers on the RippleNet network to speed up international transfers. XRP has also been at the centre of several legal disputes in the US (SEC vs Ripple), which has affected its price.
