How to Buy Bitcoin in Estonia

Buying Bitcoin (BTC) in Estonia with euros — a step-by-step guide. Best platform, lowest fees and safe storage.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first and largest cryptocurrency, created in 2009. It is often called "digital gold" because its supply is capped at 21 million coins — making Bitcoin a popular inflation-resistant store of value.

Bitcoin operates in a decentralized way, without a central bank or government. Read the in-depth Bitcoin overview if you want to learn more about the technology, the halving and mining.

Buying Bitcoin — Step by Step

1

Choose a Platform to Buy Bitcoin

For Estonian users, MiCA-licensed exchanges that support the BTC/EUR trading pair and SEPA deposits are the best choice.

Bybit

Lowest fees (0.02%)

Recommended

Bitvavo

Estonian ID card, easiest

Binance

Highest liquidity

2

Register and Complete KYC

Create an account on your chosen platform. For identity verification (KYC) you need a passport or ID card. Bitvavo accepts the Estonian ID card, while Bybit requires a passport. The process takes 5-15 minutes.

3

Deposit Euros

A SEPA transfer is free on most exchanges (1-2 business days). Card payment is instant but more expensive (1.5-3.5%). Minimum deposit from 1-10 EUR.

4

Buy Bitcoin (BTC)

Select the BTC/EUR trading pair. A market order buys instantly at the current price. A limit order lets you set your preferred price. You can also buy a fraction of a Bitcoin (e.g. for 50 EUR).

Example: You buy 100 EUR worth of BTC. Bybit fee: 0.055% = 0.055 EUR. Bitcoin is divisible into satoshis, so you don't have to buy a whole coin.

5

Store It Safely

Small amounts — on the exchange. Over 500 EUR — move it to a Ledger Nano X or Trezor hardware wallet. Bitcoin is the most popular target for hackers, so security matters.

DCA — Buying Bitcoin in Portions

Because of Bitcoin's high volatility, many people use the DCA strategy (Dollar Cost Averaging): buy a fixed amount regularly (e.g. 50-100 EUR per month) regardless of the price. This reduces the risk of mistiming the market and averages out your purchase price. Most exchanges (Bybit, Bitvavo, Binance) let you set up an automated recurring purchase.

Buy Bitcoin with Low Fees

Bybit offers the lowest Bitcoin trading fees (0.02%/0.055%). SEPA EUR, MiCA-licensed.
